years ago i used to attend a weekly workshop/gathering in atlantic city headed by raymond tyler - wise words. not only did we share and critique each other's work, we debated and provoked each other on all topics & current events. i miss that intellectual and even playfull interaction. it's something that you can't get by going to a venue. ever since i've moved i haven't found another one, so i'm looking and even thinking of starting one.
I'm currently reading Anatomy of the Spirit: The Seven Stages of Power and Healing by Caroline Myss. It's really, really good. She discusses her views on the exchange of energy and our power to heal ourselves or maintain our physical health, chakra health, etc.

For the record, I never called my work "street literature" and I never will. When I began to publish ground breaking contemporary novels with Flyy Girl in 1993, and Capital City in 1994, I called them "urban classics." They were "urban" because they dealt with people of color in the inner-city or "urban" population areas. Are there specific people, actors, actresses that you can already imagine doing well in that role?

A few of us already agree that KINDRED by Octavia Butler should be a movie. I would like to see the scene where she goes back in time with her white husband and he has to act like her master (which was a psychology that Octavia slid in on us ...

Mind you, i was going to just do fiction writers, but that genre is too vast, by narrowing it down to folks who write about the black diaspora/ african story we can have a much more vibrant discussion discussion.

Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison- This is one of my favorite books of all time and I am re-reading it. I will probably read it several times throughout my life.

Anybody have any books that you could read again and again...not because you didn't get it, but because its just that good and you know that each time you read it you will get something else out of it?

I feel like that about a few others:

Beloved - Toni Morrison

Kindred - Octavia Butler
