lately i've been hearing a lot about all of these hidden satanic messages in his music. a friend posted this video about run this town on their FB page:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk8ykNJ6jPw

i still don't see it as satanic, and i don't like how they associated pagan beliefs/Gods with evil (Osiris = Lucifer.)

there's also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iX-xVN0xERk which disects the similarities in the symbols.

but, all in all, who gives a damn if he's a mason? ...

Almost everybody has a song that they can put on that lifts their mood when they need it. Some even have whole albums that do it...

I'm listening to "Sarah's Smile" by the Stylistics. The music arrangement, the distinct voice, the words, the background singing "smii - ile"...its a slow, old folk groove and it seems to balance me out. Especially soon as the music itself comes on in the beginning...it hits the spot...I think that's a guitar in the beginning??

I finally got a copy of the Last Poets self titled first album from 1970. I had never heard it before even though my father used to always recite or write down the lyrics for me as a teenager. And there are many samples from this that I've heard in hip-hop albums (Brand Nubian comes to mind). It's interesting to hear it in 2007. Quiet Rage definitely reminds me of them. Has anyone else heard this album? What do you think about the group?

This link is for the remix to "Turnin Me On" by Keri Hilson - apparently coming at her rivals (Beyonce and Ciara?)...says "move it to the left / you're tired, go have some babies"

[yawn]

Is this a first for pop / R&B? Wow. Who put this chile up to this? 50-cent?. Not a good look. *used to see these kind of battles in hip-hop a lot...wonder how this will go

He said they are connected to our subconscious and could be a clue as to what is going on beneath the ego - especially if they are things that you have not been familiar with for some time.

I think my favorite MJB is the "My Life" album.

That was when Mary got grown with it all the way for the first time (and also that was the time in my life when I thought I was grown). The ad lib, the hooks / choruses, the passion...this is my favorite. I think I was in high school when this came out. She connected with us.

Listening to "Never Wanna Live Without You"

i love her ad libs on this... "Baby won't you stay with me a little while"

I saw this movie over the weekend. I laughed more than I expected too. I enjoyed it. Beyonce was a 7 (on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being most ideal). I think she sang "At Last" pretty good - BUT it was very hard getting used to her 2008 pop sound in the middle of all that down home soul and blues music. People in the audience said they should have kept Etta's real voice.

Etta was viscious. Bout to cop some of her music.

Little Walter was cute and stole the show.

The titles are very original too...she's worked with a lot of key creative folks (Cee-Lo, Bilal, Floetry..)...they say its 60s inspired.
