I've been thinking about things passed down to me by my mother lately and I started thinking about the phrase "the apple doesn't fall to far from the tree".

In regards to money, do you handle money the same way the people who raised you handled money?

i don't. i'm more conscientious about record keeping and having up to the minute information. i'm also much more averse to having revolving credit card debt. but in the beginning, i wasn't much different from my parents.

there's one way in which i'm similar: i pay bills like how i've seen my mom do it - figuring out the bills in a declining balance on the back of an envelope, just like she does.

Because of my family's belief that money falls from trees, I have always tried to hold onto my money. I kind of learned by being the person who suffered because of their wastefulness with money. And I never want to feel that pain again.

When did you start realizing that you didn't want to handle money the way they did?

Did you have to put extra effort into getting financially literate? (classes, books, etc)
