I may be late on this....but I heard some co-workers talking about going to McDonalds...and then I heard the phrase "mechanically separated chicken" when someone was talking about chicken nuggets...

this isn't really the same thing, but i almost became a vegetarian when i saw how they harvest chicks from eggs in poultry plants on the food network. it was SAD. i told myself that i was going to start buying free range meat & poultry...but it's expensive.
