So, I'm noticing that a lot more of today's artists are starting to hint about a coming...doom, recession or something like that.
I didn't pay much attention to until I just got this magazine at work called HR News and one of the headline articles reads: 10 Necessities for Disaster Planning.
At first I'm thinking disaster as in layoffs, downsizing..but they are giving real tips on what to do with your organization in the event there is flood, ice storms...how to make use of Federal and state resources.
It made me think of the recent works by artists:
1. Erykah Badu's New Danger - to me, the artwork and the music had this foretelling of end of the world as we know it feel.
2. Nas' new album - This album reminds me of things that black people in the know about certain things would say when they have nothing to lose and aren't afraid of the repercussions or being black listed. He also talks about ufo's and mentions the book "behold a pale horse" ***recently heard he was apart of some political protest too
3. Young Jeezy / Kanye "Put On" VIDEO - the whole plot of this video is life during a recession. The first voice you hear is a newscaster talking about the gas rates soaring, people in poverty...and the growing spread of Black and Silver American flags all over the place. **I like how this video was directed and filmed by the way.
...I know I was having a lot of dreams a while back about police states, martial law type atmospheres...people hiding in schools, etc.
I just wonder...are there artists, people attuned to something that is approaching. Can people just feel it? I know that the economy shifting and gas prices looming and all those things are currently giving a hint about things..but for some reason...it almost seems like there might be more to it.
I just felt like talking about it, since I've been seeing this HR News magazine for some time and this topic wasn't one that they usually address (at least not that I've noticed).
Your thoughts?
