Heard that Def Jam is giving Nas an ultimatum: change the name or else. They said that retailers are already telling Def Jam that they don't want the album in their stores.

Do you think Nas will change the name?
What if this was a scheme to get dropped off the label, take the money and run?

That would be diabolical. A wonderful chess move on his part. Check.

He'll probably change the name... OR is def jams threat just another publicity stunt!? Suspect

speaking of chess moves...this is the second one that Jay-z made.

Remember how Jaygot rid of Dame Dash...very indirectly (which I don't blame him for doing...Dame was a firecracker...with too much pride...that always leads to bad choices)....Anyway...didn't Jay leave Roc-a-fella, let Dame keep the name "Jay-Z" (or something like that)...then things got to bad for Dame...folks didn't want to deal with him...he ended up selling it and somehow Jay ended up owning everything again as Def Jam Pres and Dame was cut out?

CHECK mate

Now, Jay leaves Def Jam...and they threaten to drop Nas...

Maybe its all a coincidence.

Its definitely a tough decision for a record label - well not really. The reaction from the stores is enough to let you know what to do.

Nas, might be better off doing this as an indie mixtape.

I think he'll definitely make history, the ending is unknown right now.

Shocked The deception goes all the way to the top.... If that is the case, bravo Jay. That's some fancy maneuvering.

Here's a response that I saw on Okayplayer by a guy named JIHAD...thought it was interesting, so I stole it and posted it here:

the only people shocked by the word "nigger" are black folks in mixed company, other than that yeah...he's renting the "word" out to get folk to talk about his album.

what do you think?

MAINSTREAM MUSIC IS ALWAYS ABOUT MARKETNG. BUT NOW AFTER ALMOST A YEAR LATER THE ALBUM WAS VERY COSE TO HIP HOP GREATNESS.EVERYTHING WE ASK RAPPERS TO DO HE DID. MEANING TALK ABOUT SOMETHING THAT MATTERS RACE,POLITICS AND STREET COMMENTARY. GREAT JOB MR.JONES THE CD NAME MADE US PAY ATTENTION BUT IF IT WAS JUST ABOUT RECORD SALES IT WOULD HAVE BEEN CLUB SONGS,T-PAIN ,LIL WAYNE FEATURES AND STANKY LEG TYPE JOINTS. IN THE END THINK ABOUT THIS IF MR CORNELL WEST WROTE A BOOK CALLED NIGGER WE WOULD HAVE GIVEN HIM THE BENIFIT OF THE DOUBT AND READ IT FIRSTOR WORST NOT EVEN CARED ABOUT IT .
