I swear some times I think cowardice is the single greatest threat to most people’s success and growth. Time and time again, I am forced to deal with people who are just plain fucking scared of success. They see it on TV and they wish for a house on cribs. They hear it on songs and they wish for those things that those lying ass rappers are disingenuously pontificating about. These punk ass cowards sit on their Asses wishing and complaining but when it comes right down to it? They are just scared of success. I think that’s why they make excuses on why they didn’t/ don’t succeed. Oh, the white man is keeping me down; oh the white man won’t let me get a decent job, oh the white man..Oh the white man. You cowards! Success is out there for almost all of us. We just have to really want it and shed this nigger mentality that we don’t deserve it. It never ceases to amaze me how when success is right there at our fingertips we get scared and make excuses to quit and run away. Some of my faves are:

1. I don’t think we are ready
2. I don’t feel comfortable
3. We are going to be looked at as a joke
4. Let’s post-pone this till a later date
5. What if they don’t like us
6. This aint the right place for us
Etc.

Man, I say this to everybody all of the time. I believe that obtaining success is like good sex. If it doesn’t hurt? Or if you do feel too comfortable? Then you are not doing it right! You have to hurl yourself towards fear or you will always be mediocre. Mediocrity is exactly the same as complacency and there is no such thing as a highly successful complacent mediocre human being. (With the lone exception of your president George Bush)

I’m tired of cowards!

i agree. maybe we should make a t-shirt saying that. unless of course, we're going to be looked at as a joke. Twisted Evil

seriously, though, people are afraid of the unknown, even when the unknown includes success.

I've learned that, whatever their reasons may be, people need to do things in their own time. When a person's time doesn't match up with what you think it should be, it's very easy to oversimplify the picture and judge them for it. People are always so much more complicated than we realize. Complacency in one arena does not necessarily mean complacency throughout life.

Of course you shouldn't have to hear anyone's constant complaints, but that's a different issue.

I agree. You also don't want to peer pressure people into seeing or doing things your way, in your time, (my way or the highway.)

some folks are just on their own individual paths...that might not make sense to us, but as long as it makes sense them. It doesn't mean someone is a "coward" - it just means they don't want to do it that way, or right now.
