This is a letter of appreciation.
Dear Jus Words Family,
I wanted to personally thank you for being a consistent venue that has held this city down through highs and lows. So many venues start and stop, but thanks to your dedication and love for the art, we ALWAYS had / have a home no matter what. Having a place to express is so important to artists. Sometimes we just want to hang and be around other people, sometimes we want to get on stage and let it out. You kept that platform open (for how many years has it been now) and I truly appreciate it.
Its always been love. Its always been family. You all work hard to keep it together, to keep it fluid and moving.
So many times, we might focus on what Philly doesn't have enough of...we might say, "the scene is dead" or "there aren't a lot of venues", but we really should be taking the time to focus on what we DO have. Who is still moving and grinding and keeping that space open for us - and it has always been Jus Words, every week, (even on holidays)
Some of our work is healing. Some of it records history. Some of it makes us step outside of ourselves to get a good uglyface laugh in...Whatever it is...I just wanted to make sure that all of you know(past and present) how much you are appreciated:
Stacy, Cazze (former host), Shyste, Shakirah, Sam, Kisha, and Kisha's cousins...
One big thank you!
