Hey if you are reading this and you have a facebook page...you might be interested in this -

Tiffany Bacon started a new segment called "The Poetry Corner" where they feature a Poet of the Week. They are looking for poets to come in and record six pieces that are 30 seconds each. One poem will be play between 730pm - 8pm. And people can listen online at www.1079wrnb.com

I am featured this week and it was a nice 15 minutes of fame...the station is warming up to poetry and we have to take advantage of every opportunity. If you or someone you know is interested, send Tiffany Bacon a message on Facebook - subject: Poetry Corner on 107.9.

I'll come back and post my poems that aired this week.

Thanks for reminding me

Here are the poems that I read (30 seconds each):

Some were actually inspired / started from a 30 day Write a Poem challenge on Facebook.... Others were inspired by the 6 SENSES (hearing, touch, and so on):

(((FIRST POEM - Untitled - Life / Song?)

He said life is one big song
So I tuned my ear to hear
The rhymes in raindrops
And string symphonies
when the wind blows
Closed
my eyes and heard earth’s melody
in a C note
Spinning at a certain megahertz
Drum snares with the crickets chirp
To the tempo of
A mothers love
An endless chorus?
A black man’s strength
And the bridge?
A child’s first step
Yes
One big song
Still in sync
Playing to the rhythm
Of the first heartbeat

NEXT POEM - 6 senses - HEARING)))

I hope he can hear my actions
See I never told him
Because I’m tryna show him
And I don’t want to bore him
With 3 overused words
That just SOUND GOOD
They just SOUND GOOD
Often repeated by adulterers
and promise breakers
So I don’t and
I hope he can hear my actions
I hope he can hear my commitment
In every home cooked meal
I hope he can hear my trust
In hot oil back rubs
I hope he can hear my eternity
When I reach for his hand
I hope he understands
My love is too big for
3 words

((NEXT POEM - 6 Senses - TOUCH))

Its 12:30 in the afternoon
Downtown Philly is in full bloom
With lunch breakers, skateboarders
And beggars
A woman filled with the stress
Of her office
Crosses paths with
A man who’s known too many losses
The most recent?
His cardboard box

Hey Miss, Hey Miss
Why did you touch my bag
Why did you touch my bag

But ain’t nobody touch his bag
Ain’t no bags to be touched
Its just that a look in the eye
Invades his space
A little too much

((NEXT POEM - 6 Senses - TASTE))

We taste flavors
And store them on the memory banks
Of our tongues
So that we can know the difference between
Sweet, sour, and bitter living
After a full course meal
I was still
Hungry wasn’t satisfied until
I tasted the bread of life
So filled, and flavored with mercy
Made me choosy
So that the next time I was thirsty
It would only be quenched
By swallowing the truth

((NEXT POEM - 6 Senses - SEEING))

Chile you can’t see
Everything in this world
Only in black in white
No you gonna miss out
Completely on life
Especially in autumn

I been waking up next him
Everyday for 3 years
But it wasn’t until
He was no longer here
That I realized

That man, that man loved me

((LAST POEM))

They call you a jack of all trades
But don’t feel bad
Feel a PUSH!
You supposed to be great
Look at your history
We came here as foreigners
Went from being illiterate
To mastering the language
And creating others
Holding several degrees
Masters of many skills
We had ENERGY, SPIRIT
Superhumans - in the face
Race
Isms and oppression
And sometimes
Walking barefoot to freedom

So who dares not to catch the bus
Because a dream is inconvenient?
