...overheard someone saying that the inaugeration was broadcasted at their church. It rubbed some members the wrong way (mixing the two? giving a human godly praise?)

Your thoughts?

Watching the inauguration in church does not mean that Obama is being given "godly praise." Individuals and current events are regularly talked about and referred to in church.

Airing the inauguration might imply that the church sees the choice of Obama as the morally right choice. I could see people having a problem if they feel like the church is unfairly trying to force certain political views by abusing the authority people give it.

THIER IS A REAL THOUGHT OUT HERE THAT CHURCH AND STATE SHOULD BE SEPERATE.MY THOUGHT IS AND HOPE THAT THE MAN WHO HOLD POLITICAL OFFICE,WHO POSSESS MEDIA POWER, MEN WHO RUN BIG BUSINESS WERE THINKING IN THE SPIRIT OF GOD,THE PHYSICAL ACTION OF MAN SHOULD REFLECT GOD OR THE STRUGGLE TO REACH FOR IT. GOD SHOULD EXIST BEYOND RELIGIOUS RITUALS AND MERE WORDS. IF WE ARE TO PAY ATTENTION THE WICKED,BRILLIANT MEN ARE OF POWER AND WE ARE MOSTLY IN AMERICA REDUCE TO WORKERS AND CONSUMERS,WHO ARE REACTIONARY PEOPLE TO SENSATIONALIZE NEWS OUTLETS.

i am a firm believer in the separation of church and state. anyone who is not should try living in iran for a spell.

that being said, i DON'T believe in it being taken a literally as folks are taking it now. children should be allowed to pray in school, the bible can be used in the courtroom, and a US flag can be flown in front of a church. that is where freedom of speech comes in.

a church is a place were people congregate. if they have all sorts of sales, dinners, programs, discussions, meetings, etc., they should also be able to televise the inauguration (espeically a historic one) for the members that are interested. if the person that complained did not like it, it was their choice not to go. just as i'm sure they choose not to eat sister shirley's greens because she uses pork instead of smoked turkey.
