PostSubject: roaches...QUESTION   Wed Sep 30, 2009 9:17 am

how does one TACTFULLY deal with neighbors that are suspected of having roaches? I don't do roaches. Should I just talk to my landlord about it (he doesn't own the other townhouse?) Or, should I place a basket full of Raid by their door? Or, should i just ask them? (But how do you say, i think you have roaches, clean up.)

IF YOUR INNA PHILLY-TYPE ROW OR TOWN HOUSE; AND YOUR NEIGHBORS HAVE ROACHES...THEN YOU GOT ROACHES ::NO DOUBT
TOTALLY ELIMINATING ROACHES EVERYWHERE & ANYWHERE ONDA PLANET IS NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE...THEY HAVE A VERY STRONG TOLERANCE AGAINST ABSOLUTE ANNIHILATION
JUST CHECK THEIR SURVIVAL STATS; THEY'RE VERY IMPRESSIVE...THEY SURPASS CRIME & THE MACHINATIONS OF HATERS...

With that said... THE BEST one can do is control THEM; meaning your neighbors AND the roaches.... I might ADD, the former sometimes require allota TACT... moreso than the latter.

First, I would suggest approaching your neighbors in such a way that you're soliciting their support in addressing YOUR problem... This being under the premise YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE onda BLOCK with this problem... YOU make clear through feigned naivety and or ignorance THAT you assume your neighbor(s) DO NOT HAVE the problem AND probably have a PROVEN-VALIDATABLE-WAY of elimination AND CONTROL... (at this point, it might be a good idea to have the block captain or rep to act as an unbiased observer)

Secondly, PRESS UPON THEM HOW YOU NEED THEIR SUPPORT AND EXPERTISE and if necessary; TELL THEM this would be demonstrating GOOD Neighborliness.. ALSO, let them know YOU've never experienced this problem to this extent BECAUSE in the past you lived inna DIFFERENT cimate-locale-situation which back-then... the problem wasn't as prevalent or serious.

Finally, let them know how embarrassed YOU are about soliciting their help, HOWEVER...you're fearful the roaches may attempt to spread into other homes, including theirs...meaning "MORE" work for them in controlling YOUR problem... You wanna do this because, you know
EVERYBODY KNOWS...ROACHES REPRODUCE EXPAND & ROAM if NOT SYSTEMATICALLY ADDRESSED

YOU wanna get across that YOU think sharing the load inna neighborly fashion is the BEST way to go...and YOU would be OPEN to their suggestions.

(I deleted my answer after reading Kriticool's - Krit's seems more on point)

There's a psychology to it...based on what he is saying. You can approach them by saying, I'm starting to notice them and I haven't noticed them before. I bought some of this...I'm going to share it with nearby neighbors so that we can all combat the problem together.

Yay!! unity in the community Smile

good answers. thank you.

i've been here about 4 years and i never saw a roach. these neighbors are pretty new. their trash is always on the ground after trash day (diapers and stuff) and where they keep it on the side of the house isn't tidy (they have a corner unit.) i came home the other night and i saw one on the ceiling near the vent. i had a fit! i also think i saw another one the other day, but i didn't have my glasses on. anyway, i can only assume it's them.

the only problem is, i don't talk to them at all. at best, we say 'hi' and 'bye'. i'm gonna tell my landlord and have him send the exterminator out and i'm gonna tell my neighbors that i noticed the issue and i wanted to bring it to their attention just in case so they could get one to come out too.

thanks kriticool. i appreciate it, because i didn't know what to say.

tizzy - this was the subject of my day 30 poem. LOL!

soooo, after 3 weeks, a saw another one the other morning. i called guardian and they are coming out tomorrow. i told my one neighbor yesterday and then i ran into the suspects this morning and told them about it. and, i did it just as suggested - i made it my issue.

my old neighbor was suprised since it has never been an issue. the suspect had a horrified look on his face and said that they don't like roaches either. (i mean, who LIKES having roaches?)

i did make it my issue and told the suspect that i think they are hitching a ride in alyssa's bookbag. (which it totaly plausible, but if that's the case, then i would have a BIGGER problem right?) i was proud of myself because i did it tactfully.

i think what happens is everytime the suspects spray, some critters come hobbling my way because my other neighbor has not been affected at all. this just sucks.
