I just bought an album card (for Chris Brown's latest cd). I was told they are new and that they have been out for only 2 months (so not every artist has one).

The way it works is you buy this card at the record store (the card is the size of a credit card) It comes with a pin number...you go to some website (musicpass.com) and you plug in the info from the card...you get the songs, videos, and a digital booklet (and any bonus material, remixes etc.)

Once I use it, I'll be back with pros and cons.

anybody else tried it yet?

I've never tried it.. But I wonder where the added incentive is? If I'm going to go the digital route, I might as well just log on from home (Buying and downloading it from there).

seems like too much work to me (going to the site, downloading, and burning) when i can just pop in a cd and rip it if i need to. is the card any cheaper? i know it's a helluva lot cheaper for the record companies to manufacture than to replicate over a million CDs.

and you know...I bought it last week and just haven't found the time to download the stuff. Cds are better in this case.

It cost $12 and some change. Its not convenient. By the time you actually get around to downloading it...the desire to hear the music is almost gone.

I've heard of doing that to give away free music - you get the card, enter the code, and you don't have to pay for the songs - but I also don't see an incentive to buy the card. It's cheaper and easier to just buy online.

Buying those cards takes away the conveniance of buying online AND the pleasure of having a physical product. It sounds like the worst of both worlds.
