| I am about to get a little more serious with my home internet service and while I'm at it will probably throw some cable in the mix... I have always been a Verizon customer. Never really used the phone, but just had it for the internet service. I'm choosing between Verizon, Comcast or some service that the apartment has a provider they recommend called Hot Wire... Who do you use? Who do you recommend? Who has the best internet service? *On the net, I need it to move pretty fast, I will be doing a lot of website maintenance work, so something that can upload and download fast would be ideal. |

| Have you switched from one provider to the other and if so, why? Is there a difference in customer service? I am thinking of switching because Verizon was very slow and complicated with my past orders. |

| I tried to get Verizon a while back and had a horrible experience with them. I had to call them a lot and the minimum length for a phone call to them was 40 minutes - you wait on hold, then every person you talk to forwards you to another department and you always wait on hold in between people. After about a month had gone by and I still had no service, I just went with Comcast. Comcast isn't perfect, but when I do nee dto call, I get through without a long wait and i only need to speak to 1 person. |

I had a similar experience with them about a year ago...I don't have the time for those kinds of delays this time around. I need a new phone jack installed though...wondering if Comcast handles that too. |

| Comcast will run the cable wire into your house. The cable modem has a phone jack on it that you use to get phone service. If you want to wire your house so you can access that phone lines from other rooms, I think you're on your own. |

| i had the same experience with verizon, but i still prefer them over comcast. i have comcast now, only because i don't want a house phone. but comcast seems to be more expensive. i haven't had any customer service issues w/comcast at all. but i know when i forgot to pay my cable bill b/c the internet is the 1st to go. _________________ alyson...

Yep. That's why I originally pplanned on going with Verizon.
As far as pricing, Comcast gets weird. Some of their package deals are cheaper than the individual components. I just wanted internet, but it was cheaper to get internet AND phone. If you go with them, it's best to do some research before hand because the rep won't always tell you about all the packages if you don't push the issue. |
