| Stay with what you know. I'm a PC guy. They're generally cheaper and it's still easier to find software for PCs than Macs. But in the end, you should stay with what you know. If you are familiar with one, the advantages of the other will not be enough to justify the headache that goes along with getting used to a completely different OS, new programs, etc. |

| The virus thing is nothing to worry about as long as you're smart about what you do on the computer. 99.9% of the time, you need to actively run an infected file to get a virus. Stay away from shady applications and run antivirus program in the background and you'll be fine. For years, I didn't even run an antivirus program. Being careful what you click on is the best way to be safe. An antivirus program should just be considered a backup. |

| PC is the best bet. Unless your big on audio/video... there is no real reason to purchase a "Mac". Like it was stately previously, their cool, but that doesn't mean their any more functional... Plus, if you drop the money you would drop on a MAC on a PC laptop... you can get a real nice one. Hope this helps. Peace! |

That's what I noticed. MACs handle video a LOT better than PC. Windows comes with the corny unreliable Windows Movie Maker (unless you get the Adobe video software), and MACs have something called I-video (or something like that) and its a breeze.
So, I think its all about what you plan to do with it. If you plan on getting into video, recording audio (home studio stuff), then the MAC is where its at, but if its internet, documents, sending photos, trip to New Orleans - then the PC is cool |

| I haven't used iMovie, so I can't say if it's better or worse than Windows Movie Maker, but - The (admittedly) few times I used Movie maker, it's been reliable and easy - when it comes to serious video editing and audio recording/mixing, Macs and PCs are equivalent Once upon a time, Macs were better for media. Though that hasn't been true for over 10 years, the stigma has stayed. There is one major audio app (Logic) and one major video app (Final Cut) that is Mac exclusive. Those are Mac exclusive because Apple bought them. All the other professional apps (Protools, Cubase, Premiere/After Effects, Avid) are dual platform. In my opinion, for people who are serious about audio and video but who aren't making their living off of it, PC is the better option because as Mozart pointed out, you'll get a more capable machine for less money. Also, there is more free software and plug-ins out there for the PC. |

At first Windows Movie Maker was reliable for me. I was filming my video blogs, but then I kept running into the same problem. It would say something about the file size - and I have more than enough gigs for that little MB problem.
So, I googled and found a whole forum of people having the same problem with Windows Movie Maker. There were some temporary solutions but nothing was guaranteed. I figured the best thing to do is invest in Adobe video editing software and call it a day.
Now this guy I know that shoots indie music videos does it on a MAC and its a breeze. He didn't run into any of those problems, so I started asking everybody there about Windows Movie Maker and they had problems with it too. THe main thing was that its easy to use, cool when it works, but you just don't know when those odd problems will arise. They all recommended Adobe products for video editing on a PC.
That's what I'm working on getting now, but i'm also thinking about the MAC. |

| OK, I'll give Mac the iMovie point. What video are you working on? You have stuff on YouTube? I just got a camera, so I've been messing with video stuff lately. |
