I do not have a Twitter account. Considering it though.

Any experiences, comments?
Do you twitter?

(Sigh)...working up the energy for yet another social network.

I started twittering at the beginning of this year. When I speak to people about twitter, I find they usually fall into 1 of 2 categories. Either they've never tried it and think it's ridiculous that there is a social network dedicated to "what people had for breakfast" or they've tried it and realized how incredibly useful it can be.

Depending on how you use it, it works for a number of different purposes. If you have something to promote, it's a way of letting fans and potential fans be more engaged in the process. When I tweet about the process as I'm working on a new song, other twitter users are more likely to check it out when it's done. When I launched my new site (http://www.nothingexpected.com), initially I only announced it on Twitter, and I ended up getting a lot of traffic that way.

If you have a hobby, twitter can be a great way to connect with and chat with other folks who are into the same thing. I've had some gardening questions answered through twitter and yesterday I discovered some Philly photographers.

If a lot of your friends twitter, it's a good way to keep up with what's going on in their lives. In this way, it's a lot like Facebook status updates.

In the end, how good Twitter is depends heavily on how you use it. I think tt's worth trying out

I noticed people are updating their Facebook status through their Twitter accounts...that's what made me consider it.

I'm just a little disgusted that these social network sites are happening in waves. One moment - its all about myspace, then next its Facebook, now its Twitter. Its just a bit much to keep up with. Its exhausting.
**I do think its wise for Twitter to allow people to update their Facebook status' through Twitter (maybe they too are aware that its exhausting) ...I have heard that a lot a of traffic comes from Twitter.

I complained about my migration from myspace to Facebook...and the thing is, I actually like Facebook better. So I know that I will mostly like kick and pout and get a Twitter account anyway.

***
Ever thought about what the side affects will be of all this whole "what are you doing now" era? Its kind of like everyone's personal reality tv in snapshots.

Are we truthful with our updates? Or do we just post ish for comment replies?

I remember reading an article that said the kids born into this era will be more self-indulgent. I can see how with the "what are you doing right now" status updates. What is the "Con" of being self-indulgent...does it create people that cant see the big picture that they exist in?

Is it a great distractor?
Does it make people famous for doing nothing (eating cereal right now, just paid a traffic ticket, completed a 5 day fast and so on).

OR maybe there are more Pros...maybe we get to find out how human we really are? Learning that people we are interested in "following" (Twitter lingo) actually have things in common with us... Does that make us feel cool? Better about ourselves? Or maybe its just some fancy escapism?

Whatever it is...i feel like i will have slave through it (until i get an enthusiastic intern).

Honestly... I need to UNPLUG. I'm not looking for more options to be even MORE plugged in.

BUT... I am a part of the "never used it" group.

i'm with M.A.P. - i need to unplug. i'm seriously thinking of getting rid of the internet at home (again) and then the cable is going off once the summer is over (just for a couple of months.) i feel more in tune with myself when i'm unplugged.

like tizzy, i'm glad i made the leap to facebook, but that's more than enough for me.

anyway...kanye on twitter...apparently this was copied from his blog (which i took from theybf.com.) i thought it was interesting....

I DON’T HAVE A FUCKING TWITTER… WHY WOULD I USE TWITTER??? I ONLY BLOG 5 PERCENT OF WHAT I’M UP TO IN THE FIRST PLACE. I’M ACTUALLY SLOW DELIVERING CONTENT BECAUSE I’M TOO BUSY ACTUALLY BUSY BEING CREATIVE MOST OF THE TIME AND IF I’M NOT AND I’M JUST LAYING ON A BEACH I WOULDN’T TELL THE WORLD. EVERYTHING THAT TWITTER OFFERS I NEED LESS OF. THE PEOPLE AT TWITTER KNOW I DON’T HAVE A FUCKING TWITTER SO FOR THEM TO ALLOW SOMEONE TO POSE AS ME AND ACCUMULATE OVER A MILLION NAMES IS IRRESPONSIBLE AND DECEITFUL TO THERE FAITHFUL USERS. REPEAT… THE HEADS OF TWITTER KNEW I DIDN’T HAVE A TWITTER AND THEY HAVE TO KNOW WHICH ACCOUNTS HAVE HIGH ACTIVITY ON THEM. IT’S A FUCKING FARCE AND IT MAKES ME QUESTION WHAT OTHER SO CALLED CELEBRITY TWITTERS ARE ACTUALLY REAL OR FAKE. HEY TWITTER, TAKE THE SO CALLED KANYE WEST TWITTER DOWN NOW …. WHY? … BECAUSE MY CAPS LOCK KEY IS LOUD!!!!!!!!!

I absolutely love Kanye.

Thanks for posting this. I guess he can afford to feel like not having a twitter account. His blogs are too cool + he already has a successful worldwide product...but its still good to know even he sighs at Twitter.

Speaking of blogs - I finally started a Cypher Blogcast (its connected to the main site (phillycypher.com). It only has 2 entries right now, but I'm going to get that thing cracking soon. It will be more active than the website (blogs are SO much easier to deal with than managing and updating whole webpages...plust you can update them from your phone). Anyway, tonight, on my way out to Jus Words, I'm going to post info on interviewing Janelle Monae.
