I started reading the Bible straight through in 2007. I am on Jeremiah now. I plan on picking it back up next month some time.

The transformation and insight it gives is phenomenal. It gave me a lot of relief in knowing that there really is nothing new under the sun and that people have suffered greater things and have overcome and in a lot of cases excelled.

One thing I find interesting is that most Christians, churchgoers (that I've interacted with) have not read it scratch I also remembered when i was an avid churchgoer, I only read the parts that the preacher read and it never crossed my mind to actually read the entire book until years later when I had a natural longing for a higher power (and not a family member or society pressuring me to go).

I discovered there is a difference between the teachings of Jesus and the actual practice of Christianity - I know this a hot seat topic, but its what I've learned.

i'm currently reading Ezekiel and if i'm not mistaken his story is similar to Jeremiah's. While Ezekiel did his work in Babylon, Jeremiah carried out parallel work in Jerusalem. Neither mentions each other, but their messages carry many similarities. These were some "buck" brothas if you follow what I mean! They both did some pretty radical things to get God's message across. God was extremely angry at men for their disobedience. These prophets did whatever was necessary to get the Word out of His displeasure with man and the calamaties to follow. (check out Ezekiel chapter 3 & 4).

Sure did. I remember reading about a prophet (can't remember the name) who had to eat dung as a symbol of the coming famine. That's some discipline and faith right there.

Where are the prophets of today? I used to wonder if they were the artists?

Also...I'm currently reading this book called "Emperor of Ocean Park" by Stephen L. Carter. Some young bull (from Moorehouse) put me on to this about 2 years ago...I'm just now picking this up. Its like a black version of John Grisham law novels.

The opening describes a chess scenario called "Nowotony Interference" where two black pieces jeopardize the protection of vital squares...

From the first few chapters...it seems the book gets into elitism, and probably a little bit of secret society stuff too.

I love the way its written. It has a sarcastic narrative feel.

Over the weekend, I skimmed through Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth"...he put this out in 2006, and its his book warning about global warming. The introduction talks about how the same people that warned folks about Katrina are the same people warning about global warming.

Hey...ya'll want to start a new thread about readings from the bible?

That's my dog. I like his books, and I've read every mystery he has. If you want to borrow any more of his when you're done with the first, I got you.
