[/Well...don't laugh, but i use a digital camera. a Nikon, 5 megapixels.

There's nothing wrong with that - camera's can get expensive. When I first started, I got a manual, non-digital slr. I stopped using it because film/developing costs were too high. Ever since then I've been using a relatively cheap digital cam.

If you're trying to learn about photography, it's important that your camera allows manual control of the important settings. Unfortunatly, manual control complicates things, so it's not considered as important in most point&shoot digital cams. I dunno how much control your Nikon allows, but if it doesn't allow much, I'd recomend getting a new camera as soon as you can afford it.

The most important settings you should be able to control manually are:
- shutter speed - ideally with a range from at least several seconds up to 1/1500 or higher
- aperture - I think 2.8-8 is the biggest range you'll find in a cheap cam
- focus

Other manual controls that would be nice are:
- ISO - ideally with options for higher ISO settings like 800 and 1600
- Custom White Balance - this lets you shoot something white to set the balance properly

Canon's Powershot A line let's you control all that stuff and more and most of the models are under $200 (I just bought the A720). If your Nikon doesn't allow manual control of these settings and you can't afford a new camera right now, there's still things you can work on and learn without all the manual control.

I like this...did you zoom in when you shot it or after you took the picture?

It was done while taking the pic. I'm trying to experiment with angles and different ways of looking at what I think is beautiful. I think it's very interesting to take a pic of something in such away that people think it's something else. A lesson in perception I guess. And it makes for good pics....in my opinion. and thank you.

The funny thing is that this is the improved barbershop. The one before that was virtually condemned. People used to joke about going in there and falling through the floorboards. This one is “swanky” compared to the one before. I love barbershops!
