| Well, there may be some hypocracy in it, but hey, King Magazine has consistently been a men's (semi-smut) magazine like Playboy, Penthouse, and the others. My comment was applauding her great shape and figure at 42. I don't take it back either. Call me a hypocrite if you want. I wouldn't be mad or disagree with you for that. Fact is, she looks great. **Vogue is a white fashion and beauty magazine that has most recently shown black folk on some jigaboo isht. King is a mens (smut) magazine. Men like looking at bodies like Stacey's. Do men magazines exploit and degrade women- YES. Are they consistent cover themes- YES. Does Stacey have a nice figure at 42 - YES. Me being a hypocrite for saying Stacey's body looks fabulous at 42 and also saying that Lebron was King Konging it - it can go either way. But either way it goes, I don't take anything back. Even if it is hypocritical. *and I've been known to be hypocritical with my views and actions -- sheesh, I'm a libra on the cusp, it gets like that sometimes....ask my ex. So, family, I will admit it when I am. You guys may have got me on this one. (But I still stand on the other side about Vogue!) |

| I can see what what you're saying Tizzy - the magazine's history, style, etc. creates a context that could make the same picture have very different impications depending on which magazine it was published in. Still, I think if you want to get mad at mass media over it's portrayal of "black folks on some jigaboo isht," there are so many worse examples out there. Nas' album is just one. I don't think this is necessarily a case of hypocrisy. It's a case of skewed perception. We are constantly on the lookout for signs of racism, but we regularly miss the most blatant and destructive examples because they are so ingrained in modern culture that they don't seem noteworthy. Getting mad at Vogue is like yelling at someone for sticking a pin in your finger while not saying anything to the guy who's in the middle of sawing your leg of with a dull, rusty, lemon-juice-coated hacksaw. |
